Leadership SIS

The Leadership Special Interest Section (SIS) is a dynamic community dedicated to empowering Occupational Therapy professionals to explore and advance leadership across all areas of practice. Whether you’re an emerging leader or a seasoned professional, the Leadership SIS offers valuable resources, meaningful discussions, and opportunities to build leadership skills. This SIS serves as a collaborative space for therapists to share strategies, make connections, and develop leadership competencies to influence the future of the profession.

Meetings

Virtual meetings will be held quarterly on the second Tuesday of the months of January, April, July, and October. Details will be sent via eblast to members.

Leadership SIS Co-Chair Amber Midena, MS, OTRL, MBA-HR:

Amber Midena graduated with her Master of Science in Occupational Therapy from Grand Valley State University in 2015 and later completed the Leadership Certificate Program in 2023. She went on to earn her MBA with a human resources emphasis in 2026. Amber started her career in the SNF, ALF, ILF, and Outpatient Home Care settings. Over time, she transitioned into a non-traditional role as a Lead Care Coordinator specializing in utilization management. She is very passionate about advocating for the profession and pursuing leadership opportunities to drive meaningful change within the healthcare system.
 




Leadership SIS Co-Chair Sarah Roe, OTD, OTR/L, CCM:


Sarah Roe graduated from The University of Toledo in Toledo, OH in 2014 with an entry-level Occupational Therapy Doctorate degree. She also obtained a graduate certificate in Contemporary Gerontological Practice. She started her career in SNF and Home Health, and has experience as a clinical educator both in the field and as a previous adjunct faculty member at Owens Community College Occupational Therapy Assistant program in Perrysburg, OH. She holds a certificate as an AOTA Fieldwork Educator. Currently, Sarah is a Senior Manager of Clinical Performance within the utilization management and care coordination space. She obtained her Certified Case Manager certificate in 2021. She is passionate about supporting the development of fellow leaders, and advocating for a better healthcare system for all.
